Sermon on the Mount

A group of believers I know started a blog called Project Ezra.

It is "dedicated to encouraging, equipping, and mobilizing born again followers of Christ
from around the world, to read the Word of God in public".

Earlier this year they did the "Sermon on Mount" and I thought that while Pastor Hartley was teaching
on the the same topic that we could also read this passage in public. Why should we do this?

Romans 10:17 (King James Version)

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Information

I takes about 20 minutes total for one reading, which is Matthew Chapters 5,6 and 7.

Guidelines and Suggestions

  • We suggest this be done with at least 2 people but not more than 4. While one person is reading always turn to that person and listen to what they are saying. Do not carry on side conversations or turn you back because you have heard it.
  • Pray and ask God to use His word.
  • Pray and ask God to give you compassion for the lost.
  • Practice reading with a loud voice. If you are concerned you may come across angry because of a loud voice then every so often pause to tell anyone listening that you are not angry but speaking loud so people can hear.
  • Always speak with grace
  • Never point at someone
  • Be prepared to share your testimony or a gospel tract if you are timid to share the Gospel.
  • If someone starts to object, just keep reading. You can talk to them ( if you like) when you are done.
  • Respond to evil with good. Remember they are not rejecting you but the Word of God.
  • Have some gospel tracts to hand out. ( We can supply them )
  • A good suggestion I heard today was to have a small sign that would say " Sermon on the Mount"  Matthew Chapters 5,6,7

I was able to read Matthew Chapters 5,6 and 7 today at the Court House in Lawrenceville at 12:30. I had 3 ladies stop and listen for awhile as well as one man who asked me where I was reading from in the bible. I had just enough time to drive to Lawrenceville, read , drive back, grab a burger at McDonalds and make it back to work.

If I can do it, so can you! Email evangelism@lilburn4jesus.com and I will add your comments.

After the "River" tonight (our Wed. night prayer and praise meeting) I stopped outside the Hindu Temple and read the sermon on the mount from the sidewalk. May God bless the reading of his word.

Tonight 3 volunteers went to the Historic Court House in Lawrenceville to read. The Mayor was having a prayer service at 7PM so we had planned to start the reading at 6:30. I asked the Mayor if it was okay and he said we could. We were able to finish by 6:55 so we did not get the boot.

There were about 25 people that listened and afterwards we handed out tracks. I was a little taken back went several folks were more concerned that we read from the NIV and not the KJV. They handed the tracks back without even checking what it had to say.

It is a sad thing when confessing Christians are more concerned about a translation version than the lost!

A husband and wife team was able to read two times at Stone Mountain on 8/30. Once at the bottom of the Summit Skyride and once near the "Walk Up Trail" around
Confedrate Hall.

A team went to read today at the Hindu temple in Lilburn. One of the team members told me that when He woke up this morning and saw the rain, He was disappointed but understood that we are fighting a spiritual battle. We prayed for God to bless the reading of his word and proceeded to read Matthew 5-7 in English and Hindi.

During the reading a car stopped and an Indian man asked if we do this every Saturday. I said no and was suspicious; was he from the temple? He said he would like to join us if we do it again! I gave him the information to our web site and he left us with a God bless you.

As I returned to the reading I couldn’t help but wonder who else drove by that God might have spoken to as a result. What a blessing from God to show us He can use us.

Maybe this will end up being a monthly event.
